Dark Salvation Nottingham Rock City 5 Oct 2003

"Lets move on to Jesus Fix, a three piece who put the rock in goth. They came across as a testosterone-fuelled Nephilim and were quite impressive with their solid rhythm section and Nephilim influenced bass lines upon which the songs flowed. Jesus Fix played a tight and confident set, gelling better than a junkie and a syringe."

Bash, Meltdown Magazine issue 16

Rockin at Rock City by Daniel Moss

Jesus Fix was at Rock City in Nottingham with a selection of other bands on Sunday October 7th. Being a huge fan of Jesus Fix, I HAD to be there...it was going to be a night to remember. The first band took to the stage at 5:00pm; it was Voices of Masada if I remember rightly...next came Jesus Fix!

As C checked over his kit, playing with his double bass pedal for at least a whole minute(!), P and J plugged themselves in, P sporting his great-looking BC Rich Bass Guiter, "Jesus Series" (hehe).

The anticipation was building, Alex turned the video camera on, and they were off... J struck his guitar in his unique and powerful way, the opening song was Fear of Sleep, my personal favourite. They exploded into full force, the powerful drumming, vocals and guitaring playing in perfect symmetry with one another. By this point I was already headbanging away and singing my lungs out along to the tunes...I don't care if I was one of the only ones, personally the looks on all the crowd's faces indicated to me that they were both shocked and impressed, shocked to see such a professional and great-sounding band perform before their eyes and impressed at how great they sounded.

As Fear of Sleep came to a close, the guys immediately burst into their second song Forever, another favourite of mine...by the end of this one we were presented with a rare treat... P shouted to the crowd (a very rare thing!)... J later told me he was shocked, because of the crowd's silence following, he thought P had said something out of turn, quite the opposite, he simply showed them that they hadn't finished yet! The rest is self-explanatory; they exploded into the songs that followed at full speed... Jesus Fix were rockin'!

As the guys pulled off strong performances of Bed of Flies, Die Again and Cast a Shadow (all featured along with Fear of Sleep on their latest Demo recording), the crowd were eating out of their hands! All three members were working well together and it was paying off, they were giving the crowd a taste of what a professional band sounds like.

Next came a taste of some new material. I was told earlier by J that they had two new songs planned for us...but even I couldn't have expected what came now...although I never did get to hear the names of these two new beauties... they were fantastic, the material was hard-hitting and rhythmic, a great example of typical Jesus Fix...fabulous quality with a touching, hard-hitting theme.

As their set was drawing to a close, the guys finished off with a song off Eden Falls, Rapture...this song had to be my favourite off Eden Falls and it lived up to its hard-hitting reputation...a fantastic song to end on, well chosen to be their closing piece...as P began with the song's opening lyrics:

When I wake
Into a dead world

The place literally shook as Jesus Fix burst into full throttle for this, their final song. As a now headbanging P along with a clearly pleased J and C pulled off the song, I almost felt sorry for C's drumkit, the poor thing was receiving a pounding, as were J and P's guitars...but the sound was great... Jesus Fix were rockin' Rock City!

The crowd was a good one, I've seen better during my times at Rock City, and frankly on crowd response I was a little disappointed. Although the crowd could have been a little more enthusiastic, Jesus Fix were one of the best bands on the night, and everyone knew it...the night will remain in my memory for a long time as one of the best.

The other bands were great, especially Killing Miranda, The Ghost of Lemora and the VERY alternative Punish Yourself...but none gave quite the same atmosphere that Jesus Fix did...the guys were fantastic!

The guys stayed for a while after their performance for a drink and to watch a few more of the bands, the band themselves had enjoyed the night immensely (always a bonus), and with good cause, I wouldn't be surprised if Nottingham will be craving more of Jesus Fix in the near future. They were great.

After a couple of drinks and a few photographs for my collection, C, J and P packed up and headed off back down to home. All had a great night, and Jesus Fix left a large imprint on Rock City and Nottingham, I wouldn't be surprised if these guys make it big one day soon! Come back to Nottingham soon guys!

Jesus Fix for the big time!

Until next time, Peace out!

Dan
